The Impact of Human Factors Engineering on Performance Sustainability: A Field Study at the Saudi Electricity Company

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the impact of human factors engineering (HFE) implementation on performance sustainability at the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), as well as to identify the role of human resources in HFE at the company. The descriptive analytical approach was used, and a questionnaire was used as the primary tool for data collection. The study population consisted of 400 male and female employees at the SEC. The SPSS statistical program was used to analyze the data collected from the study sample. To achieve the research objectives, a questionnaire was developed using previous studies to measure the study variables. The study concluded with several results, the most important of which are: There is a statistically significant correlation between the availability of regulatory requirements for HFE application systems and performance sustainability for employees at the SEC in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The SEC manages HFE applications at a high level in accordance with international standards based on modern fields of customer protection and performance sustainability, to varying degrees. A set of recommendations was also reached, the most important of which are: leveraging scientific research in the fields of human factors engineering applications to address weaknesses, reduce threats, and increase and strengthen strengths and weaknesses using scientific methods. Providing physical working conditions and good workplace design based on principles helps reduce occupational risks and leads to increased productivity, lower costs, and increased safety for individuals. Future proposals, most notably the application of the study's findings and recommendations to other sectors, such as health, service, industrial, economic, and educational sectors.
